Sometimes a song just hits hard. Songs can strike a nerve in us as individuals, and some songs even resonate with all of humanity in timeless form. As I continue to stroll through this life I observe far too many people who are walking, breathing and speaking without actually living. It saddens me to know that so many are mindlessly trudging through each day having no clue of the immense potential that lies dormant within themselves. If only they could awaken inside it would change the course of their lives and bring them joy that they don't even know exists.

These lyrics were written for the 2003 hit song, Bring Me To Life, by the band Evanescence as the title track for the movie Daredevil. Band member and power vocalist, Amy Lee, wrote the song at the tender young age of 19 as she found herself in an abusive relationship. An acquaintance saw straight through her facade and asked her some difficult questions which ultimately resulted in Amy's redemption from a life caged within her own prison. Though the lyrics are very personal to this artist, Bring Me To Life, begs the questions we should all be asking of ourselves... "Am I "wringing out" every ounce of this life with each passing day? Am I at peace when I'm alone with my thoughts?"
If taken seriously, these questions can certainly take you on a spiritual journey. The answers for me were found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus is the one who looked into my soul and awakened me. You will have to find your own spiritual path, but I am certain that to go through this life asleep is not the intent of your existence. You were born to live an extraordinary life, a life filled with purpose and meaning. I've witnessed far too many people with tremendous potential choose to sit in front of a screen for hours and hours, living vicariously through fictional characters in TV series and movies. Some even become recluses as they choose to live their lives playing fictional games for hours on end. Others exchange their own lives for a fictional existence within various social media platforms. I'm not suggesting that the occasional enjoyment of these activities is wrong, but they certainly shouldn't become your primary existence and define your identity.
Real life is not found on a screen. A photograph of a flower can be pretty, but that photograph is not a real flower. Real life is found in the real world. Take hold of a real flower, touch it, examine it, smell it and admire its beauty. That photograph can't even come close to the real thing. I encourage you to break free from the matrix of deception found staring into a screen and walk outside into the real world with all its splendor. This grand adventure called life requires that we are wide awake, and it takes effort, courage and some risks to experience it to the full. Laziness will never enjoy the fruits of this life and will ultimately destroy your existence. It is imperative that you resist the urge to sit down too much.
My hope is that you will recognize your value as a person. You weren't born for no reason, and you weren't born to sit around and watch fantasy all day long. Your life has purpose and your life was intended to make an impact in this world. No matter the place and situation you find yourself in this life, there is so much yet to experience, so much to give and it's never too late to begin. You need only to awaken your spirit from within. So, what is going to bring you to life?
