Cajun Depot Grill - Elijay, Georgia
One of our favorite food genres has to be cajun/creole and of course seafood. After dining on Bourbon Street in New Orleans and spending time on the Pearl River during my ski days with the locals, it's difficult to find authentic cajun food. Living in the North Georgia mountains makes this even more a challenge. Only a short drive from our home town of Dahlonega, Georgia, sits the quaint town of Elijay. Elijay is known for their apple orchards, and as autumn approaches many flock to the area to enjoy welcomed cooler weather and autumn festivities. Many may miss the original historic district if you are just passing through, but if you want to get to the best part of Elijay then seek out the old town. There are several good restaurants there, but our favorite has to be Cajun Depot Grill. https://www.facebook.com/cajundepotgrill.
This locally owned and operated restaurant offers the most authentic and delicious cajun style recipes found anywhere north of Atlanta. The old and historic building provides a great vibe as well. It's relaxed and friendly. The menu offers a vast array of options and includes a lunch menu. Everything from sandwiches and Po-boys, to platters and entrees, I can gurantee you will find something delicious for all to enjoy. There is also a full bar for anyone wanting an adult drink. Plenty of dessert options are available to put a sweet finishing touch on your dining experience.
PRO TIP: Their bread pudding is a family recipe made in-house and is so scrumptious I crave it as I write. 😋
Though we have a similar menu offered in Dahlonega, we choose to make the 40 minute drive to Elijay for our cajun and seafood fix.
